SHIMMERING SPIRALS
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC
Ange Kovako of Upscale Hair Salon in North Charleston, SC, uses sew-in hair extensions to create a voluminous style.
These delicate spirals are the perfect balance between tight curls and ultra-loose waves. Strands are braided into cornrows to prepare for a sew-in weave application, leaving tresses out on top to keep the look more natural. A sewing net is applied over cornrows and off-black 18-inch virgin Indian extensions are sewn in. Extensions are then razored around the face, with shears used to layer the back. Softening spirals with a brush creates a wavy look, while a flat iron is used to smooth crown lengths. A light oil sheen and holding spray are used to finished coif.

REAL-WEAR TIPS
Weave guru and celebrity stylist Dr. Boogie offers up great information about weave selection and maintenance…
CHOOSE THE RIGHT TEXTURE “Get hair the matches your hair texture,” comments Dr. Boogie. “It boils down to picking the texture that blends with your own hair.”
TREAT YOUR TRESSES “When you have a weave and your hair is braided up underneath, it’s very important you take that opportunity to oil your scalp—especially if your edges are thin or pulled back,” explains the weave expert.

i have grey hair-since age 15.now i am in my early sixties and want a weave strand by strand and color, plus style.i am worried about damage to my hair and how to prevent that and have healthy haie and get it growing again.
that was a mouth full—thank you
Hi Lady Sarah: Wearing a weave is a great option while you’re waiting for your hair to grow. However, keep in mind that a healthy foundation is an important part of weave wear. Before you visit a weaver, go to the salon and get a deep-conditioning treatment or hot oil treatment. When you’re ready to apply the weave, make sure the braids are not too tight in order to avoid pulling the hair and causing breakage
I need advice fast!I’m going on a cruise & I love the water. I wear weaves, but the longer style seems to be high maintenance. I love the curly-kinky look. What kind of hairstyle looks modern & low-maintenance for a week aboard ship?
Hi Winona: Consider Remy human hair extensions. They will give you the most versatility in styling and last longer than two weeks, which is perfect timing for your one-week trip. But just because you’re on vacation, it does not mean you should skip haircare. Use a moisturizing leave-in conditioner when cleansing your hair and stop by the salon when you return home for a deep-conditioning treatment.
I love wearing wigs and weaves. I want to get a strand by strand weave, but the only problem I believe exists is that my hair is natural. Is it even possible to get this technique done and what type of hair would you suggest? I do not want to get a relaxer at all
Hi Tbaby: Whether you are wearing your hair relaxed or Natural, select weave strands that most closely resemble the texture of your hair so everything blends properly. If you want silky straight extensions and your hair is very curly, you’ll have to work harder at blending your hair with the extensions. For the best results and for information on various application techniques, visit the salon and consult your personal stylist.
I will like to know where i find the weave fire & water.
Hi corine: The Fire & Water Indian Human Hair weave is made by Sensationnel. Check your local beauty supply store or visit Sensationnel’s Web site.
How do one look after the wigs such as pony tail and have wigs
Hey Marcia Mbona: When wearing wigs on a regular basis, it’s always good to invest in a wig head/stand to help keep your style investment in good shape. Remove the wig nightly, prep it for wear for the following day then place it on the wig stand so the wig retains its shape. As for ponytail hair pieces, the main thing is to keep it smooth and tangle free. Remove it at night, brush through lengths then lay it flat.
I would like to get a straight sew in weave but clueless on what brand hair is the best because I would like to wear the hairstyle for at least 2 months with it napping up. Any suggestions?? I am also on a budget…
Hey Monaka…hope you don’t mind me replying to your comment. But if you want an in-expensive weave that’s Good and reliable I would suggest “Premium Too”…it’s a good quality of hair and always works best for me with good care and if you want more of a true reliable weave you can also try any brand of “Remy Saga” it’s more expensive than the Premium Too and also a better quality. Hope this Helps :)
and also Monaka you can also try the brand “Outre” it’s pretty good
Hi Monaka : If you’re most concerned about the lasting power of your weave, you need to consider investing in Remy human hair. Remy hair has all the hair cuticles facing the same direction. This is why your hair won’t tangle or break unless it is chemically treated, which disrupts the natural cuticle. Hair extensions in Remy form are of the highest quality and will last longer than a synthetic weave.
I will be the most Fierce! Fabulous 40 year old black woman in my or my husband’s family come October 20th of this year! This also happens to be our 9yr wedding anniversary and I would like some mature yet slammin sexy ideas for hairstyles, befitting a lady of my,..ahem…experience…
I’ve always relaxed and/or weaved my hair…Braiding damaged the hairline a while back and I’ve been trying to come up with styles that would camouflage that as well. Oh yeah!…I love long or shoulder length hair,..My yummy, hubby likes the curly afro look, on me that is,…;-/ I know kinda nutty,…
We know you’ve got it goin’ on Leslie! Choose a hairstyle that gives your hairline the least amount of stress. Try a soft, tousled ponytail. That style is hot right now. Keep your hair in its Natural state and give the hairline a chance to recuperate. Wrap your hair in a silk scarf at night to minimize movement, oil the scalp periodically and remember to condition. Once you see an improvement, you can get another weave. However, make sure the hairline is loose and the braiding is not too tight. Also, do not incorporate synthetic hair into the hairline braids.
thank youy…
