Weave Couture

SATINY SMOOTH
HAGERSTOWN, MD

Shakena Warren of Combs-N-Clips Beauty in Hagerstown, MD, works with 16″ extensions to create a sleek silhouette.

Weave 1 Weave 2 Weave 3

Transform from day to night with ease thanks to this totally chic silhouette! Natural strands are braided down before a weave cap is attached. Using a pack and a half of 16″ hair extensions in a dark brown shade, the extensions are sewn in to the weaving cap, starting at the nape and working upwards. Once the weave is closed in a circular pattern at the crown, a full fringe is cut with clippers. A light spray oil is applied to hands and applied throughout the hair. Going section by section, a ceramic flat iron smoothes extensions, helping to lock in moisture.

REAL-WEAR TIPS

Weave guru and celebrity stylist Anthony Cherry offers up great information about weave selection and maintenance…

INVEST IN QUALITY HAIR “Each time you have your weave re-done, you can use the wefts up to a year if you invest in quality hair extensions and take care of them properly,” affirms Cherry.

CONSIDER LENGTH “The longer the extensions, the more expensive they’re going to be,” explains the weave pro. “Anything over 12″ may cost over $150 a pack.”

HI I HAVE BEEN WEARING A WEAVE FOR YEARS AND MY HAIR FINALLY WENT FROM SHORT TO SHOULDER LENGH…MY QUESTION IS WHAT PRODUCT SHOULD I USE ON MY WEAVE TO STOP THE FRIZZY,THE NAME OF WEAVES I USE,OUTRE (SUPERNATUAL) AN JANET COLLECTIONS (PERM YAKY)

  2. amanda says:

    Hello,
I have very thick and curly hair but it seems like my hair just isn´t growing and I really dont know why.
I actually never put heat on it, because most of the time I have a weave anyway, but still it is just not growing.
And yeah everybody says you have to wash your own hair once till twice a week but how can I wash it if I have a weave on and the same think with moisturizing and conditioning.
    Please Help Me!!!!!

  3. Brittany says:

For the sake of time, I use bonding glue to achieve many of my styles. Is there any long term damage that can result from using glue??? Only my edges and crown have been relaxed. The middle is cornrowed and fairly natural :)

  4. Tanekqua Ward says:

Hi..im turning 17 soon, and ive never had a weave before…so ive decided im going to get one..im just a little confused on what to get…i know i want a sew-in..but i also need something that i can keep up with because i play alot of sports…so any recommendations will help…please and thank you =)

  5. Charmaine Straughter says:

I haven’t had a perm for over 5 years and I wear weaves. But I have yet found a product to lay my edges down without them curling up. I’ve tried Keracare wax stick, Egde, Privana, just to mention a few. And I was told I could just perm my edges but I think it would damage my hair. Are there any products or suggestions you can recommend for the edges of my hair?

    • FJennings says:

Try Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Edge Control. It is really great. I have the same issue and this stuff has done wonders for my edges. You can get it at any beauty supply store and its between $5-$7. Try It!

  6. Carie says:

I have a BOB sew in and it is impossible for me to wrap it. I just got it done last week and it looks looks a mess, the ends are looking frizzy .. How can I maintain my protective style and my natural hair underneath ?

  7. Niyoke says:

Well i am 15 and i just recently got my first weave, but i wanted to ask, how long should i wait to re-new the one i have right now and is it smart to just unsew the old one, leave in the braids and just sew in a new one or what?

    • SBH says:

Hi Niyoke …The best thing to do is talk to your weaver about how to maintain your look–a conversation that should have happened before you even had the weave put in. We wouldn’t recommend doing weave maintenance on your own–especially since this is the first time you’ve ever experienced a weave.

  8. reese says:

Hi,i am going into the seventh grade and i always wear weave but in braids and i am tired of wearing braids so i want to get a sew in and i want to know should i get a 12 inch or 14 inch and how many packs.

    • SBH says:

Hi Reese The length and the number of packs you’ll need all depends on the style you’re going after.

  9. Mrz Tee says:

I have long hair that won’t grow anymore and I would like to add weave to get length. The last time I tried glue and sew-ins but they made my hair fall out. Is there any weave method I could try that won’t make it fall out? And is there a such thing as “too much” hair to do weave?

    • SBH says:

Mrz Tee : Perhaps it would be best to find the cause of why your hair isn’t growing before you concentrate on putting a weave over it. Check in with your weave stylist to see if the bonding or braiding is causing your hair fall out. In actuality, it may not be that your hair has “stopped growing” but that it’s breaking off.

  10. Dafhine says:

Hi I have been placing a weave pony tail for a while and when I attend the gym as well. Recently every time I experince a break up my hair breaks off due to stress and the pulling from the ponytail. What type of products can I use to grow my hair back quicker? My hair is very thick and it used to be shoulder length but it’s about at the length of my neck now however, I want long thick hair so I decided to go natural so I have been getting a weave placed in my hair. My question is Does having a sew-In weave help your natural hair go faster? What type of products can I use to help my hair grow faster?

    • SBH says:

Hi Dafhine A sew-in weave, one where your natural hair is braided/cornrowed first before attaching the extensions will help give your hair a “rest” from daily styling and handling. This in turn, may help your natural hair to gain length–since they’re not being expose/stressed with daily styling. However, make certain that the braids aren’t too tight and that you go in for regular maintenance on your sew-in weave so that you natural hair is maintained underneath the weave. As for growing out your hair faster..Well, that’s all about getting the right nutrients in your diet, conditioning and moisturizing. Check out SBH for helpful hints in how to foster good mane growth.
