During her 27-year tenure as the editor-in-chief of Essence magazine, Susan L. Taylor grew the publication’s readership to more than eight million, established the widely popular Essence Music Festival, and became the first African American woman to be inducted into the American Society of Magazine Editors Hall of Fame. Taylor now acts as Founder and CEO of the National CARES Mentoring Movement, where she helps connect thousands of Black volunteers to schools and youth organizations across the country. “I believe we should all have the support and courage needed to fulfill the promise and purpose of our lives.”
