Her name may by synonymous with “Milkshake”…You know the one that brings all the boys to the yard. But the music star behind the 90s pop single hit (and former Sophisticate’s Black Hair cover star!) is cooking up something a little more complicated these days. Singer/songwriter Kelis just released her cookbook, My Life On A Plate (Kyle Books), and it’s filled with delicious recipes that tell Kelis’ story through the food she creates. But this isn’t just another book from a “celebrity chef.” The native New Yorker has earned her foodie “chops”—thanks to growing up with a mother who ran her own catering business, the singer’s travels around the world and a stint at Le Cordon Bleu. My Life On A Plate is a collection of the Kelis’ favorite recipes and features a mix of foods from her Puerto Rican heritage (Pernil—Puerto Rican Pork Shoulder, Arroz con Gandules and Shrimp Alcapurias) along with dishes inspired by her travels (Malay Curry Chicken and Swedish Meatballs). So, does the cookbook also have a recipe for a milkshake? Nope. You’re gonna have to get that someplace else.
