Q.
I recently had a newborn baby and my hair grew a little. I would like my hair to grow at least to my neck. How can I achieve this and what type of products should I use? I wash my hair once a week. —April

A.
The hair growth process is slower than most people think. Textured hair grows about four or five inches per year. In order to see a progression of growth, you’ll need to be consistent with proper conditioning. Your conditioning maintenance should be a balance of protein and moisture, which will help the hair be strong and flexible. Make sure you don’t use too much heat, as this can damage your hair—especially your ends.

Everyone’s hair grows, but the problem is the ends become damaged and break off because it is the most aged hair and has had the most wear and tear. When damage occurs, people never see the hair get longer; as quickly as it grows, damaged hair breaks off. Be patient, be consistent and condition, condition, condition.
