  1. DW says:

I Use Ultra sheen Supreme No lye Conditioning relaxer. my hair has grown down to my waist I have not cut it because I am growing it for my grand-daughter so that she doesn’t cut her hair. Right now at two her hair is past her waist. I wash and conditon both our hair.I do not perm her hair at all. but I use hot oil treatments.

  2. denise says:

God bless u guys for doing a great job..i however have a few problems and wont mind some help: I have very full hair of midlength, but my scalp is very soft, so it burns badly after most retouches. I use revlon lye relaxer (moderate strength), this has been burning my scalp and I dread a retouch each time its due. I was thinking of changing to a no-lye relaxer(most prferrably organics root stimulator). Do you think I should use the children’s kit or should I stick with their medium range? I was also wondering if their are any tips to reduce (or better still stop) hair thinning and breakage, I steam/deep condition my hair every month. Do you think I should change to natural hair?

    • SBH says:

Hi Denise: There are steps you can take to prevent breakage. Wash and condition your hair every week and try an additional hot oil treatment or deep conditioner twice a month. Always use wide-tooth comb to detangle damp strands and get you edges trimmed regularly. As for the relaxer, you may want to consult a salon professional. However, if you prefer the do-it-yourself version, the trick is to find a product that works for you and follow the directions in order to avoid over-processing the hair. If you would like to switch to a no-lye relaxer, try it out. No matter what, make sure to add moisture to your hair by making the conditioning moves we mentioned above Good luck!

  3. candace lowry says:

i have used and searched for alot of products for dryness,by the way,my hair gets really dry ,anyway ,i rememberd my aunt using the blue magic hair dress and it used to make my hair really soft ! i recently started using it again ,and it really makes my short hair look really nice and shiny ,very soft,so i recommend everybody to use it again if they have stopped!!

  4. B. Griggs says:

My wife’s scalp is really dry and flakey. She has tried everything to keep her hair from being so dry. What should she do to keep her hair moisterized. Thanks.

    • SBH says:

Hi B. Griggs: Suggest hot oil or deep-conditioning treatments. Your wife’s scalp needs to regain the proteins it’s lacking. If dryness persists and you see red bumps or peeling, make an appointment with a dermatologist.

  5. Taylor says:

My hair is not curly wen i wet it it kinda goes nappy, i wanna wear it natural is straw curls gonna work for my hair type

    • SBH says:

Hi Taylor: Everyone’s hair reacts differently to various styling methods. If you want to try a Straw Set, visit a salon professional and tell him or her you’d like to wear a Natural style and prevent frizz. At home, you can work on avoiding frizz by using humidity resistant sprays prior to heat styling (if you use a flat iron, curling iron or hot rollers). You should also stick to a weekly haircare regimen consisting of shampooing and conditioning with a moisturizing shampoo.

  6. Alyce McCleary says:

My must have hair care products vary. I will swear by Motions Deep Conditioning Shampoo, and their Moisture Plus after Schampoo conditioner. I love it! I also use ic Pure Aloe Shampoo. I will give myself a deep conditioner treatment with Aphogee products. Pantene Restoratives a Breakage Defense, is a item I use from time to time. Most of my hair products are for chemically treated tresses, bc i do have a hair relaxer. I try to make sure that all of them contain some sort of deep conditioning, replenish moisture to dry or damaged hair. As I left in an earlier comment, I do use Pure Olive Oil for as down right Deep Conditioner, it makes my hair flow, shine, and it gives it Strength. If I feel like flat ironing my tresses I will use ic Heat Protector Straightening Spray. I love doing my hair, and sharing my methods.

    • SBH says:

Hi Alyce: Thanks for sharing your haircare tips! We bet you’ll find even more fabulous bits of style and maintenance information in SBH. Pick up a copy of the November issue before it’s gone! And don’t forget to check out the Dec./Jan. issue, on sale very soon.

  7. Natural is the way. says:

You could all solve your problems if you stopped destroying your hair with chemicals.

    • SBH says:

Hi Natural: It’s a good idea to visit a salon professional when considering a chemical process, because a stylist will apply the service with professional knowledge and skill—and moderation is key. With proper application, maintenance and care, any style can look fabulous whether it’s a Natural look or not.

    • Brandie says:

Well, I have had natural and processed hair and either way maintenance is key. Personally, I prefer the processed hair because, for me, it’s easier to maintain. Either way, if you are not caring for your hair properly it will be damaged whether natural or processed.

  8. Kim B. says:

Hi, I have really thick hair but I have a big balding problem in the middle of my scalp. Every time I get my hair back to a healthy state, the middle of my scalp is where I begin to bald. It first starts off as a quarter and then it gets larger to the size of a small apple maybe. I even shaved my entire scalp, thinking that maybe that would help it, same thing happened, the middle part of my scalp begin to bald again. Also, I started using a new product called TCB Naturals Hair and Scalp Conditioner with Conditioning Olive Oil and it seemed to work on every area except my bald spot. My sister says that that area could be my stress spot and it does not grow or strips out when I stress. What should I say?

    • SBH says:

Hi Kim: One cause of hair loss is stress. Set up a consultation with a physician. He or she may have some suggestions to help improve your health which in turn aids in the hair growth process.

    • Alyce McCleary says:

      Hi,Kim

Just alittle info for your curiosity, about your hair loss. I have experienced the same problem for the past three years now. I consulted with a dermatologist, and i also began taking a vitamin supplement. There are a variety of options you have to minimize our problem. Don’t give up hope! Schedule a consult with a good dermatologist. You won’t regret it!
Good Luck!! P.S. If you need a name let me know!!

  9. Kim M says:

My mus-have hair care product is Sebastian’s molding mud. It helps smooth my edges, controls fly-aways, and smooths my hair when i put my hair in a pony-tail.

  10. Savannah says:

    Hi,

I wanted to know what products I should use I have coarse thick hair that always looks dry. I am currenly using the root stimulator olive oil perm which is working fine for my hair but like in 3 to 4 weeks I get newgrowth, it starts to look dry before 3 weeks after the perm what should I do?

    • SBH says:

Hi Savannah: Make sure you’re adding enough moisture to your hair. In addition to your regular cleansing and conditioning routine, try getting a deep-conditioner once or twice a month.

    • Alyce McCleary says:

      Hi, Savannah

Try using pure olive oil, as a deep conditioner for your thick tresses. It can get alittle messey…saturate ur hair and dont forget to start from your scalp, and work it all the way to your ends. Cover it with a plastic cap or a warm towel, for at least 30 mins. Rinse and then wash with a deep conditioning shampoo. Try not to use a very high setting if you are blow drying. I let mine dry without heat. Twice a month, you will notice a difference.
      Good luck!
