This fall’s musical movie, Fame, was full of Hollywood newcomers. Naturi Naughton is a familiar name on our radar thanks to her work in the teen music group 3LW and her recent turn as Lil’ Kim in the biopic Notorious. “The singing and acting [in Fame] is so much fun to me because that’s always what I wanted to do as a child,” says Naturi during her exclusive SBH photo shoot in which we explored her ultra-glam side!

“My favorite look was when I had my hair really straight,” says Naturi of her SBH photo shoot. “It was really fabulous, sleek and smooth.” See how hair pro Tash Jennings uses a flat iron to smooth Naturi’s naturally curly tresses. “I have [human hair] extensions in right now,” shares Naturi. “Human hair extensions are the only way I can still use a curling iron. The extensions really help my hair from being damaged. Since I’m constantly putting heat on my hair, my hair is protected because it’s in the braids and it gets a chance to grow.”

In another look, celebrity hair pro Tash Jennings sectioned Naturi’s hair and gathered it into a chic upsweep. “The upsweep was really gorgeous and fun because it was all swept to one side,” says Naturi. “We teased it so it really had a lot of body.” The star, who typically wears soft spirals, shares her maintenance routine with us. “On a typical day, I’ll probably have my hair in medium-sized, bouncy curls. Every night I pincurl my hair, put on a satin cap and go to sleep. When I wake up I take out the pincurls and shake my hair a little bit.”

Wondering what the vibe was like during Naturi’s SBH photo shoot. “We listened to Beyoncé’s ‘Halo,’ which got me excited because I love that song. They played some Lady Gaga and some other hip-hop, R&B and pop music. It kept me up, moving and enjoying the fact that I was at a photo shoot for Sophisticate’s Black Hair.”
