The gospel music powerhouse duo behind Columbia Records CD The Sound might be known as Mary Mary collectively, but separately they are sisters Erica and Tina Campbell. During our SBH photo shoot we caught up with these gorgeous women for the behind-the-scenes scoop! “I thought this look was hot,” says Tina of this hairstyle and outfit she wears in this portrait by Chicago-based designer Barbara Bates. “It made me want to rock out and do a bunch of fun, crazy stuff!”
“My favorite look [for the photo shoot] was the black jacket with the black leggings,” says Erica of this sexy outfit, also by fashion designer Barbara Bates. “I think my alter ego is like a rocker chick.” As far as her tress style, Erica wears extensions to accentuate her look. “Let’s call additional hair ‘assistance,’” says the star. “If I sweat, you are going to see the effects of it much quicker than you would with ‘assistance.’ [The extensions] are to prevent wear and tear.”
Celebrity makeup artist Tia Dantzler applies a touch of shadow to Tina’s eyelids. Tina, who once worked as a makeup artist, shares her beauty thoughts: “I did makeup for a few different magazine shoots, and I realized I was not committed [to the career]. But I enjoyed makeup and I enjoyed playing with it and creating!”
Celebrity hair expert AJ Johnson touches up Erica’s tresses on the set of our SBH photo shoot. Erica, a former hairstylist, offers her best tress advice: “Keep your hair clean and conditioned,” recommends the singer. “[As a hairstylist] I was all about healthy hair.”
I think Tina and Erica’s hair stays so amazing in the magazines and on performance, and even in photo shoot..I think that is a good idea for the stresses if you have hair sweats during performances..I’m a musician myself, a violininst and I guess I could see how that would be..But wanted to let you guys know that you always look wonderful while singing..

I love Mary Mary and they both are very beautiful sisters. I wanted to know what kind of hair/ extensions does Erica have. I love her style and I’m going to get it this weekend. Just want to know what kind of hair I should use?
Hi Princess E: Mary Mary’s Erica wears a weave she has re-sewn and re-tightened about every month-and-a-half to two months. If you want your weave to last longer than two weeks, invest in good quality Remy human hair. Remy human hair extensions give you more styling options and have the least amount of tangling.

Actually, Andre Barbara Bates does design for men…in fact, she created some pretty fine looking ensembles for me in the NBA and NFL.
