Q
I’ve been relaxing my hair for about seven years now. During those years I’ve used three different relaxers. I’m using the same brand of relaxer for over two years. I’ve been told that you have to change your relaxer once in a while. Is this true? If so, why? —Dithnoraima
A
I too have heard women express a need to change relaxers often, but I see no valid reasoning for the change except to try something new, better or different. The base ingredient in most relaxers available for consumer use is going to be pretty much the same. The difference will be in the conditioning factors each may offer. As women, we are constantly changing. And many of the factors governing our hair may be controlled by our hormones, so as you know, this is an ever-changing landscape. Be flexible and do what works for you.
