Makeup Musts

Saisha Beecham

Makeup artist Saisha Beecham has created some of Hollywood’s hippest looks. Here, the beauty guru shares her secrets behind the looks of her clientele and gives us a peek into her oh-so-pretty world.

Michelle

“Michelle is always a complete sweetheart. I usually stick with a natural look on her. I start by applying a primer and top it off with Armani Luminous Silk foundation. I also love to use the Smashbox Limitless Beauty Eyeshadow Palette on her because it has a great range of tones—some shimmery and some matte. To complete Michelle’s natural look, I line her lips with a nude pencil and fill them in with a soft coral lipstick and a coat of clear gloss.”

Tasha Smith

“Tasha Smith is a beautiful woman and it’s such a joy to help her get glammed up. I like to apply a bronze shadow to highlight her eyelids and brush a dark brown tone outward from the crease for a sexy look. Then I press loose black powder eyeshadow along her lash line and blend it out for an intense look. A pair of false lashes completes a sultry eye look. To make her cheeks pop, I apply a rosy blush to the apples of her cheeks.”

Melanie

“Being part of Melanie’s glam squad is like being part of a family I usually like to highlight her eyes and give her a great glow. For a pretty eye look, I apply M.A.C. Pigment in Tan all over her lid. Then in her crease I sweep on the Contour shade from the Smashbox Contour Kit. For some pop, I line the inner rim of her eyes with L’Oréal Extra-Intense Liquid eyeliner pencil, which is one of my favorites because it is very creamy and smooth.”

Makeup artist Saisha Beecham shares her makeup musts for fierce looks!

THE MAKEUP MUST-HAVES “NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencils are lipgloss in a pencil form, which is amazing. I love them because they are perfect for a quick fix and give lips a nice, sheer color. I also can’t live without black mascara. My favorites changes, but I am loving Smashbox Bionic mascara because it makes the eyes really pop. I also like Smoke and Mirrors Beauty Hollywood lashes. For a little sparkle, I also use NYX Ultra Pearl Mania in Mink on the cheekbones and nose.”

  1. Ms Gwen says:

Years ago I had my eyebrows cut off halfway and now I need a good eyebrow pencil to really accent my eyes. I’ve tried retractable pencils but it’s not working the way I would like it to. Any suggestions and/or better products I can purchase?

    • SBH says:

Hi Ms. Gwen: We are checking with our makeup expert and we’ll have an answer soon.

    • Tia says:

Trylaura mercier pencils. they stay pretty well or even the brow pen by Anastasia. Its like a marker. The whole line is dedicated to brows

  2. catina claytor says:

im looking for a new fall look for makeup and hair color im lightskin and looking for a change im also in my late 30s

  3. Lili says:

I love N.Y.C Showtime Length and City Curls mascara. They make yur eyelashes really long and curly. To get mine long, first, i curl my lashes with my curler. Then, i put a coat of the Showtime Length mascara in an upward motion from root to tip while swiveling the brush. Then, i use a coat of City Curls mascara with the same motion as the first one. After that, i use one more coat of Showtime Length mascara on the tips of my lashes to make them really long!

  4. Lili says:

Hi! If you’re having trouble with your eyeliner or eyeshadow not staying on your eyes and caking off, powdering your eyes with powder before applying it helps a lot. It helps to keep the make-up in place and it lasts longer!

  6. chrissy says:

hello anise i have oily skin also but the best makeup i have found was bare mineral… it works good for me because it doesnot clog your skin and you do not get ance bumps. i still have to touch up sometimes thoughout the day but it still works great.. in the meantime if you all find a better makeup that we very oily skin ladies can wear please print it because we wants to look pretty also without being oily….thanks chrissy

  7. Shorty says:

I have dark lips. How change I lighten them?

    • Shorty says:

      *can

    • SBH says:

Hi Shorty: If you like lighter color lipsticks, try them! Sophisticate’s favorite Nicki Minaj once revealed her signature lip color to be M.A.C.’s Pink Nouveau. Take a trip to your local drugstore or department store and take a look at all the lipglosses, lipsticks and lipstains. Experiment! And don’t forget to check out the “Star Makeup” column in every issue of SBH to get some great makeup tips from the pros.

    • Lili says:

Putting concealer on your lips before gloss makes them look lighter and great.

  8. alicia b. says:

I have dark circles under my eyes and very dry skin I would like to know what I can do take care of these issues. I normally dont wear makeup but anything will help thanks

    • SBH says:

Hi Alicia: Hydrating your skin is important, especially during the hotter summer months. A moisturizer with Vitamin C helps combat any past damage the sun has done to your skin. You also want to use a sunblock to protect yourself from harmful UV rays. As for cleansing products, avoid using astringents because they may have a drying effect on your skin and, instead, go for moisturizing soaps. It’s all about the moisture!

    • Lili says:

Cucumber slices on your eyes for 10 minutes helps to minimize dark circles. Also, rubbing cucumber on your face helps to moisturize it.

    • Tia says:

try an eye cream with caffine or vitamin c. cucumber is good at helping puffiness and irratations too

  9. Empress_virgo says:

i have oily skin, i use MAC products. firstly prep the skin with prep + prime then add concealer to your chosen areas then powder foundation (i use a brush to apply make-up better coverage)then touch up during the day with blot powder. x

    • SBH says:

Great tips, Empress Virgo! Looking for more makeup tricks? Check out the “Star Makeup” column featured in every issue of SBH for some advice from the celebrity makeup pros!

    • Lili says:

Try make-up that has an oil absorbing formula, such as cover Girl Clean brand make up. There’s a formula for dry skin, normal skin, and oily skin. I use the one for oily skin because my skin is kinda oily too.

  10. anisa says:

I have super oily skin, but I am looking for a good foundation that I can wear without getting a shine or without the make up melting off or caking up or causing my acne to flair… any suggestions?

    • SBH says:

Hi Anisa: We’re checking on an answer for you—visit soon! In the mean time, check out the “Star Makeup” column in the August issue of SBH for some tips from a celebrity makeup pro!

    • SBH says:

Star makeup pro Reggie Dowdley has an answer for you, Anisa. Some women like powders, while others prefer liquids, cream sticks. It’s all about trial and error. First, start out by using a few blotting sheets to pull out excess oils seen on the surface of your skin. Then, when it comes to applying makeup, you may want to try putting foundation on only the main areas of concern, but be sure to blend out any lines. Try an oil-free concealer stick and set it with a translucent powder. Also, carrying a compact translucent to touch up is helpful. Hope this information helps you to put your best face forward!
