Can you tell me about the inspiration behind your latest single, “Afterparty?”
The inspiration behind Afterparty was to make a fun song—a lot of my songs are about [having] fun. I made a song about a girl and a guy and she’s the after party. She’s the real fun of the night.
How did you get into the music industry?
I’ve been doing music for a very long time. I’ve been performing since I could walk. I’ve done competitive dance, competitive cheer and pageants growing up so performing has always been part of my lifestyle. About 6 or 7 years ago, I started doing YouTube cover videos and they did really well—that’s when I knew music was what I wanted to do. About a year ago, I started recording original music.
Who are some artists who inspire you?
Kanye West, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Aaliyah and of course Beyoncé! Beyoncé is a performer and I’m a performer and I love to put on a show. I think she’s a great inspiration for that.
How would you describe your style when it comes to music?
I would definitely say R&B Pop because my music is more than just R&B and not just all pop. I feel like I have my own genre.
What can fans expect from your first album?
My first album will be out hopefully by the end of this year. I’ve been working on a lot of new music and I can’t wait to put it out— it’s definitely a new sound. I really feel like I’m bringing a new sound to the industry and I’m really excited for my fans to hear.
We love your hair! Can you describe your current hairstyle?
My current hairstyle is dirty blonde and very curly—long, curly blonde hair.
How do you achieve big, defined curls?
I wash it every two days. Before I blow-dry it, I use a curl perfection conditioner as well as curl-perfecting mousse spray. After I blow-dry my hair, I put more [hair products] in it, and it holds my curls. My natural texture is very curly and it keeps my curl pattern perfect.
How do you maintain your blonde tresses?
I’ve actually done pretty well and I think it has to do with the conditioner I use. It’s a very natural conditioner and I think that really helps with the color.
How do you keep your hair healthy?
I take a lot of vitamins—a lot of hair and nail vitamins that keep my nails, hair and skin looking very healthy, which I think is very important. I drink lots of water and I feel like water is the remedy for everything. Also, I don’t use any heat at all.
When do you feel the most beautiful?
I feel the most beautiful when I wake up because that’s the natural me—I don’t have on any makeup and my hair is not to perfection. When you see yourself first thing in the morning that’s really who you are, that’s what God created.
What’s the best hair tip you’ve received?
Always make sure your edges are laid.
