At last night’s NYC Met Gala, gorgeous music star Janelle Monae quietly stunned with a gorgeous braided coif (dubbed The WondaBraid) and flawless makeup. Here we give you the beauty details courtesy of the star’s glam squad…
The WondaBraid was crafted by celebrity hairstylist Caprice Green. “I started with three sections,” details Green. “For a twist on the Mohawk effect, French braid the two side sections down and connect them with a covered elastic band at the nape of the neck. The key element to achieve the perfect finish is to spray a little finishing elixir on your hands prior to braiding the hair. Your fingertips deposit just the right amount of product without ever leaving hair oily.”
She then took the center section, leaving out a small quarter section of bang, and began fashioning and outward braid all the way down. “Don’t forget to braid your elastic-secured section ‘into’ your center braid at nape,” she adds. “Finish by grabbing your bang area and braid down and forward towards the nose.” Take your final braid and pin it back to overlap your center braid for height. Gently pull and tweak edges of the entire braid for fullness and dramatic effect.
As for Janelle’s mesmerizing eye makeup look, we turn to star makeup pro Jessica Smalls for the intel. For eyes, Smalls used CoverGirl Eyeshadow Quad 705 Palette by applying Color #3, a medium bronze, to Janelle’s lid and then with a windshield wiper motion, applied Color #4, a deep brown with a blending brush. “I lined her eyes with CoverGirl Perfect Point Plus Eyeliner in Black and I finished with false lashes and then coated her lashes with mascara.”
