This chic look is both modern and unique thanks to colorful crimson highlights and striking silhouette. Strands are Wrapped and set under the dryer for about 30 minutes.

Get the look: Using a wide-tooth comb, tresses are slicked back and secured in place with hairpins at the nape. Fringe is left out and a pompadour shape is formed over one side to showcase cinnamon highlights. Hairpins work to secure bangs and hairspray keeps the look smooth and frizz-free.

PIN-UP PRETTY

Glam curls are the perfect way to dress up an everyday style. Medium-length, Natural hair is blow-dried before being cornrowed to prep for a full weave.

Get the look: Gold and dark brown extensions are then sewn in from front to back, with Natural strands left out at the crown. Extensions are trimmed to even out, creating long layers throughout. As a flat iron shapes the spirals, curls are pinned in place to set.

GORGEOUSLY GLOSSY

GORGEOUSLY GLOSSY

Make a great first impression with long, shiny lengths. Gorgeous chestnut highlights brighten up a rich, black base shade.

Get the look: Layers are shaped with scissors and come to a V-shape in the back. Bangs brush eyebrows to help frame the face and add definition to the style. A ceramic flat iron smoothes tresses to create a sleek and polished silhouette. To finish, a light-hold spritz is used.

  1. Monique says:

These hair styles are really nice! I only wish they would’ve kept the woman’s hair color more natural looking. In my opinion the highlights are a little too much.

    • SBH says:

Hi Monique“To each is own! Some people like a lot of color…It just depends on the person and the effect/technique used to create the look. Glad you’re pleased with these looks!

  2. steph says:

My 10 year old has long and soft natural hair. I have 2 problems it curls and frizzes up easily and it can be very dry at times. what do you recommend?

    • shemieka says:

I am a hairstylist in Dallas and I get asked this question quite a bit. First thing is to make sure that u are using a HYDRATING/MOISTURIZING shampoo and conditioner on your daughters hair. When hair is drier and lacking moisture, it tends to soak up whatever moisture it can when we step outside, thus resulting in the puffiness and frizz. Another thing is to make sure that u use an OIL BASED STYLING CREME to help keep the shine and define the curls. I recommend the BIOLAGE CURL CREME or the PAUL MITCHELL FOAMING POMMADE. it works wonderfully on keeping the hair moisturized and shiny and can be used every other day.

    • SBH says:

Hi Steph: The key to soft hair is adding moisture. To help control your daughter’s frizz, try mixing a leave-in conditioner with a setting lotion and apply it to damp hair. If the back of the hair continues to frizz, opt for a deep-conditioning treatment every couple of weeks.

  3. Shaniqua H says:

I have a dilemma my birthday is coming up soon and I want to do something new to my boring hair. But every time I find a hairstyle stylists tell me it requires a few tracks or a weave but I’m done with tracks or weaves. I want to style my hair with my own hair. But I had a bad scalp problem that is taken care of due to medicine but I don’t want it to come back again because I can’t wash my hair and get to the scalp with a weave in it. I want to cut my hair into a bob or a cute short hairstyle. What can I do that doesn’t require a weave? (My hair is medium length)

    • SBH says:

Hi Shaniqua H: If you’re looking for a cute short hairstyle, the current issue of SBH has some fabulous options for you! Try a cut that falls just below the chin with soft, graduated layers and a sideswept bang.

  4. Tina Holloman says:

I will like to see more short hairstyles because my hair is short really short and I do or my beautician does the same style and I will like to see more of different styles.

    • SBH says:

Find out if your fave professional product lines (such as Mizani or Design Essentials) offer seminars and make sure you attend hair shows in your area to not only see the latest hair trends but to also catch any classes which may be offered in your line of interest. Good luck.

  9. kami says:

my hair is natural mother is white father is black however my hair is more african american, my question is, my hair is some what long and I usually keep it in a bun and I flat iron it with a electric iron every blue moon, now my hair is shedding really bad Ive been trying carrot oil any suggestions?

    • Nellie says:

I use Nutress by HAIR shampoo and Nutress HAIR moisturizing Protein Pack for shedding. Our hair need to be moisturized daily. You need two different types of conditioners, one for protein and the other for moisture and seal, or you can have one conditioner and add an egg when you want to do a protein treatment. Our hair need to be moisturized daily with a water based moisturizer, which is Organic Root Stimilator olive oil or carrot oil. Oil based moisturizer, which is coconut oil by blue magic, which is focused more on the hair.I just washed my hair yesterday and followed this regimen and I love the thickness of my hair. I also purchased Biotin from Wal-mart for 3.00 and take two a day. i hope this answered your hair questions.

    • ray love says:

use doctor miracles products or africa’s best products. no im no sponsor lol but i use them and they work great. what you do is after you wash your hair with the shampoo, you put in the conditioner and blow dry it, then wash it out. with africa’s best, you can leave the conditioner in. [in order to do a wrap,i wash out the cond. & shampoo and apply motions moose b4 and while i am wraping my hair] do that for a while. i thought my hair would NEVER go back to being healthy but it did.; with the flat iron, only use it every once in a while if your wrap starts loosing its bump. :) hope i helped

    • Mrs. White says:

Hello Kami, I would suggest to keep it moisturized, and conditioned and use a light hair oil or Dr. Miracle. Also I would suggest you try a rollor wrap to keep the heat off of it, this is where you roller set your hair and then after it is dry and you have taken the rollers out wrap your hair and tie it down and then sit back under the hair dryer for 10 to 15 minutes and then comb it out. Your hair will have body and as long as you wrap it at night and tie your hair up with a silk or satin scarf it will last for about a week or two.

    • SBH says:

Hi kami: Check out the special feature “Bi-racial Hair: Tips For Coping With Your Combo Coif” found in the Sept./Oct. issue of SBH for some terrific tips on handling your mane.

  10. bebe says:

    • SBH says:

The first thing that comes to mind bebe is for you to get a conditioning treatment. Visit you colorist for a recommendation. Then, grab the Sept./Oct. issue of SBH (the one with Zoe Saldana on the cover) and check out our “Breakage Myths” and “Illuminate Your Hair” features. We think you’ll find these stories particularly helpful.

    • Nellie says:

first of all you should give your self a hot oil treatment with olive oil. Deep condition with a Nutress Hair Protein Pack, which moisturize and condition your hair. I use Organic Root stimulator Olive oil for my thirsty hair roots and coconut oil by Blue Magic to focus on my hair. Shampoos, I use Aveeno moisturizing shampoo and nourishing leave-in conditioner with wheat Protein. Another example of protein conditioners is: Organic Root Stimulator Replenshing Conditioner or Aphogee 2 minute Reconstructor, or Aussie 2 minute Reconstructor.I also take Biotin for my hair from Walmart, cost 3.00 for 1000mcg, I take 4 a day. Two after breaksfast and two at night. I hope this is some good hair regimens for you.
