MICHA BROWN
Hard work and determination are the key factors that contributed to celebrity hairstylist Micha Brown’s success in the world of star styling.
ON HER A-LIST CLIENTS: “I first worked with actress/singer Raven-Symoné the day the movie Good Hair premiered,” shares Brown. “I got a call one morning that she needed a hairstylist and they got my name from a writer or producer who had heard about me.”

ON HER BIG BREAK: “When I first started, I wanted it so bad that I worked crazy hours for minimum wage and sometimes for free, too. You have to be dedicated if you want to make it in this business!”
ON ADVICE FOR OTHERS: “The advice I would give to anyone who wants to break into the business of celebrity styling would be, ‘desire, and desire.’”
Celebrity Raven-Symoné flaunts a soft, luscious coif styled by hair pro Micha Brown.

What is the name of the eyeshadow that Jennifer Hudson wore in the current edition of SBH. Khadija was the makeup artist and it was a silvery-white eyeshadow. It looks very pretty and it made Jennifer’s eyes pop. Her makeup is always on point. Thanks Please let me know. I really would like to try that look.
We’re looking into this for you Deana! Stay tuned!
OK, Deana, here’s what we found out…Celebrity makeup pro Khadija DeShong used a MAC eyeshadow on JHud in a silvery-pearl shade. Keep in mind that most makeup pros tend to mix and blend makeup hues to create a custom-color effect for celeb clients. Try MAC eyeshadow in “White Frost” for a similar effect. Here’s looking at ya!
Hey, I want to know how do you make your hair grow back when it starts to fall out on one side and want grown back?
Hi TT: First you’ve got to address why it’s not only falling out but why it’s falling out on only one side! Could it be that your style is stressing out one side of your head? Maybe you’re pulling too tightly with your style on that one side or you could be sleeping only on the side that has growth problems. In any case, consult with your hair pro and doctor to get to the heart of the matter. Good luck!
i have long hair up to my shoulders and i want to cut it for a new look, but i dont kno what style is right for me
You’re gonna love the August 2010 issue of SBH Regina! It’s filled with page after page of terrific short cuts you can consider! Pick a few styles you’re loving from SBH’s pages, take them to your fave hair pro and discuss your mane options. To get the perfect style, you might consider combining elements from different coifs to come up with a totally unique cut!
I am interested in knowing what salon or stylist does R&B Singer Monica’s hair in Atlanta Georgia?
Hi Camillia: The last time we did a photo shoot with the fabulous Monica, her gorgeous coif was crafted by Atlanta hair pro Stacy G.
Hello,
I’ve recently begun cosmetology school and my goal is to specialize in weaves and extensions. What is the best way for me to gain advanced weaving techniques and skills?
Hi Brandi : We admire your thirst for knowledge! Try learning the craft by apprenticing with a skilled weave expert. You can also do research and pick up additional skills by reviewing advanced how-to weave videos. Go to hair shows and check out the platform artists who specialize in weaves and ask questions. Good luck in your beauty career!
i am a hair stylist and im just really getting in the game but i dont have a specific trade mark like what i really specialize in. do i need a specific area that i specialize in? right now i pretty much do it all. i want to be a stylist that can give any customer what they want. is that not a good thing or what?
It’s all good necole! If you find that you have skills in all aspects of hairstyling more power to you. In this way, you’ll be versatile enough to give your clients whatever it is they need. Having a specialty (such as coloring or weaving or cutting) is also a good thing–since clients can then come to you for a service they know you excel in. We’ve found that most celebrity hair pros we’ve encountered are very good at all aspects of hairstyling–but tend to gravitate toward a styling specialty because they enjoy it or because their clients request a particular service more often. Check out the Salon Talk “Celebrity Stylist” column in each issue of SBH for more insights into star styling.
My dream is to be the Ultimate Celeb Hairstylist. But I also want to network and get experince under my belt to make a name for myself. Where do I go for resources as far as volunteer work for fashion shows and etc? What are the steps I need to take to achieve this goal? Please I need all the help I can get. Thanks. (Washington, DC)
Hi StephDa HairQueen : Networking means being able to make the most of all opportunities which come your way—especially since you’ll never know where it’ll lead ya. Try contacting the publicity department of major department stores to see when they plan on doing a fashion presentation that would require hairstyling for the models. Check in with record labels and try to get a meeting with artist development execs who are searching out new talent for a star’s glam squad. Grab a copy of the Aug. issue of SBH (the one with Rihanna on the cover!) and turn to the feature on celeb stylist Kim Kimble in the Salon Talk mini mag. There, the star stylist shares her best tips for making star styling connections. Good luck!
I am a very talented and skilled stylist located in the south. Most of the hair in my area is very kinky. I specialize in transforming kinky course hair into silky, bouncy, shiny and straight hair without the use of chemicals. As a licensed cosmetologist of 15 years, I’ve discovered a technique that my clients love! This technique allows me to have my clients out of the salon with straight, bouncy, and beautiful hair within an hour of their appointment time. If u would like to know more please contact me.
We’re intrigued Stasee Please send an e-mail to us. You can get all the specifics by clicking on to the button at right called “Talk To Us!”

What products can i use to grow long, thick hair?
Lanica : If we had the ultimate answer to that question we wouldn’t need our day job :) Seeing as we’re all unique individuals, it’s a matter of acquiring the knowledge regarding what our hair needs to thrive. That means: checking in with your stylist for a consultation on mane care, checking your diet to make sure you’re getting all the proper nutrients for hair growth and testing out different products on the market to find the ones best suited for you. And, as part of your mane care fact finding mission, it’s always best to pick up a copy of SBH (or subscribe) to stay on top of all things hair! Best of luck!
I’m in the process of transitioning from relaxed to natural hair. It’s been 5 months since I last relaxed my hair. I’ve recently started using Carol Daughter’s products to help with the transition, which has really made a difference. However, I’m not sure how to style my hair. I don’t have that much new growth, yet, therefore, if I cut my hair now, I will be practically bald. I don’t want to do a weave, wear a wig, or do the “big chop”. Do you have any suggestions as to how I can style my hair as I transition. Thank you in advance for your time and help!
Hi Deborah First of all, always check out SBH for some terrific hair tips and design ideas (our June/July issue with Brandy on the cover is on sale now!). Then, enlist the help of a Natural hair pro to guide you on your journey to a Natural style. As for transitional looks, experiment with wet sets or twist styles to work with the length you do have. No need to cut it all off if that’s not what you want…You just have to work with what ya got. Thanks!
