  1. Bertha says:

What can I do or use to get thicker hair?

    • SBH says:

WellBertha, first things first…pick up a copy—better yet—subscribe to Sophisticate’s Black Hair so you’ll always be on the forefront of style and hair care. Now, as for your hair…Practice a little tlc (cut down on heat styling) and a little know-how on product use (select the ones for your hair type) then enlist an expert (your stylist) to help you on your journey to achieving thicker tresses. Best of luck!

  2. C.J. says:

Hello SBH I’m a guy who trying to grow long hair do you have any tips

    • SBH says:

Hi C.J. The tips that apply to women who want to grow longer hair also apply to the men. Basically, it’s all about selecting the right products for your hair type, practicing care when styling your strands and getting the right info (check out SBH!).

  3. Lashunda says:

I’ve lost my hair in the crown of my head.I used bonding glue and I lost hair where the tracks were. It’s been 6 years and my hair have not grown back. I’ve gone to a dermatologist who suggest I stop perming my hair and start using rogaine. It’s been 6 months since my last perm.I wash my hair once a week and I warm comb my hair. I have not started the rogaine; I understand I’ll have to use it indefinitly. I’m only 33 and I enjoy outdoor sports, and I’am uncomfortable swimming. Can you please give me some good advice. I’am in desperate need of help. Thanking you in advance.

    • SBH says:

Hi Lashunda It sounds like you’ve been taking all the right steps to help your hair situation and have been receiving advice from the pros. If you don’t feel comfortable taking professional advice given to you then perhaps you may need to seek out a second opinion regarding your problem. Weigh your options then select the one you feel is best for your particular concern. Good luck.

  4. Lanica says:

    Hey SBH,

Last year, I added extensions to my relaxed hair. Unfortunately, when I removed them I realized my hair was signficantly thinner and had a spot of short, damaged hair where the extensions seemed to have caused tension. What is your advice for remedying this situation? Products? Services? My goal is thick, shiny, shoulder length hair.

    • SBH says:

Hi Lanica…We can’t say this often enough: Enjoy your weaves and extensions but please don’t forget to care for your hair underneath. You’ll need the expertise of a professional stylist to help you back on your way to healthy hair so make that appointment now! In the meantime, give your coif TLC with regular conditioning treatments and check out the wonderful hair care tips found in each issue of SBH. We think you’ll especially find info our “Hair Advice” column helpful. Best of luck.

  8. mateeba says:

my hair is color treated on the ends any major tips to help maintain hair health to keep from having to make a big chop due to frizzy ends??

    • SBH says:

Hey Mateeba: You’ve got to keep your ends well conditioned and treat them with a lot of TLC…that means easing up on the heat exposure during heat styling and applying a leave-in conditioner to help keep ends well moisturized.

  9. Kressy says:

Hi i have a slender face, an my hair is down my back alost midway down.I am lite skinned and have had black hair in the past. So later on the years the ends going to da top of my head is like a dark honey blonde.I dont know why ,but im thinking of a color that I would like to try with my hair.Im not looking for a permanent haircolor just temporary and not dry my hair.any suggestions on what color to try?

    • SBH says:

Hi Kressy: Haircolor is a fabulous way to refresh your style stance this season. Experiment with clip-on extensions to see how highlights work for ya! Don’t stray more than 1-2 levels beyond your mane’s original hue if a natural effect is your thing. For a bolder look, go with a contrasting lighter or darker hue. Check out “The 2010 Trends Forecast” in the March/April issue of SBH for the latest in hot mane styles and color. Enjoy!

  10. Lushaunda says:

My hair is natural and when I wash my hair I usually blow dry and when I wake up in the morning I flat iron my bangs. It’s been a few months and my bangs have begun to get thin so I now put my bangs to the side. What are some ways to stop my hair from thinning?

    • SBH says:

Hey Lushaunda: Give your bangs a rest from heat styling! It sounds as if they’re a little stressed from all flat ironing. A trim couldn’t hurt either–since ends may be a bit frayed.
