DARICO JACKSON
For celebrity hairstylist DaRico Jackson, his career working with the finest brothers and sisters in Hollywood began with a trip to Los Angeles in December 2002. Since then, Jackson has coiffed some of the hottest celebrities around.
ON HOW HE GOT HIS START: “I flew to L.A. and did the Nestlé Crunch with Caramel commercial with Shaquille O’Neal. I also visited Elgin Charles Salon in Beverly Hills, and they gave me an interview on the spot and asked when I was moving to Los Angeles.”

ON HIS BOOK RELEASE: “In addition to the book, I’ve also filmed a documentary. It’s a video commentary with these ladies talking about what it means to be a Black woman with their hair and in their industries.”
ON BEING AN EDUCATOR: ‘I design looks for the stage and build a curriculum around the haircuts so we can teach 100 to 165 techs.”
Jackson poses for the camera with Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse star Tasha Smith.

What hair care products help eliminate frizz?
Hi Courtny: Choose a product that corresponds with your hair’s texture. Coarse hair can get by with a little product—mousse, setting lotion or styling foam. Fine hair requires humidity-resistant sprays, which are thin and won’t weigh your hair down. You may also want to try a deep conditioner once a week to tame unruly strands.

Hi, My name is Courtny, I would liketo think Sophisticated Black Hair magazine for giving me great advicefor taking care of my hair. Keep up the good work! The question I have is what is the cause of split ends? and what else can I do to prevent them other then keeping the ends cliped
Hi Courtny: Thanks for the lovely comment! There are a number of causes that contribute to split ends, including your haircare routine. When you shampoo, gently massage your head rather than scrubbing it vigorously. Always use a wide-tooth comb to detangle strands. Finally, sleep on a satin pillowcase, as moving around in your sleep can cause stretching and breaking.
i am a 14 yr old girl and i absoultely love black hair it’s full, thick and beautiful and i believe more people should love it cause it’s ours and since it is lets just ROCK IT!!! (while we have it;)
Hi Ky: We couldn’t agree more—work it, girl!
I have recently got my hair colored in a honey blonde and 2 weeks ago i got it cut. Now i have realized that i want a weave should i wait until the color wears out or can i go ahead and get the weave. Which is better sew-in or bonding?
Hi Ayonia: As long as you match the color and texture of the weave to your own hair, you don’t have to wait for your honey blonde shade to grow out. Bonded hair extensions do not last as long as a sew-in weave does, so if you choose bonded extensions, you will need to redo them every two weeks. However, if you’re consistently redoing the extensions, your hair will always look fresh!
I have a passion for hair. I just recently graduated from Empire Beauty School in Kennesaw,GA.,I have a small clientele but have not went to take stateboard yet not until December.Do I try and apply at salon to build my clientele and better my skills?
