Q
I recently started the process of going Natural. I have fine, curly hair. What hair care routine or products would work best for me? I am currently using a lit of light moisturizers.—Erica

A
It sounds like you are on the right track. Moisturizers are very important during the transitioning process, as well as during the Natural experience. Cleanse with a moisturizing shampoo and follow with a moisturizing conditioner. As your hair grows, gradually trim away the relaxed hair if you are not ready for the Big Chop. Try to be gentle because you will be maintaining relaxed and Natural textures on the same strand. The line of demarcation where the relaxed and Natural textures meet can be fragile, so be patient.

WET (LOOK) HAIR

…It’s Officially A Thing

It’s late summer, so this coif trend doesn’t really surprise us. After all, when it comes to mane moves for warm-weather days the easier the better always gets our vote—and that includes the wet-look hair trend! But there is more to crafting the effect of saturated strands than just stepping out of the shower and going with it. You do have to make a bit of an effort. Create that glossy, “wet look” by priming mane with glossing pomade, a light hair wax or conditioning, leave-in hair lotion. A little tousling kicks up casual waves and you’re good to go. Check out how these celebrity sisters are rocking the look…

Rihanna’s saturated bob.

Q
I have alopecia and I also make my own wigs. Since I don’t have enough hair for the combs to grip, what can you suggest I do to ensure the wig stays in place if I’m making a U- or L-part wig? —Stacey

A
The U- or L-part wig styles may not be the best choice if your alopecia is advanced and there is not enough hair for clips or combs. Another option is tape, but test it to be sure there will not be an allergic reaction. Also, go online and do a search for “glueless wigs.” You may be able to find a good alternative.
