When SBH caught up with curl girl and teen gospel music star Spensha Baker she showed off her skillful styling technique on camera! “I save the curls for special occasions—like photo shoots,” shared the young singer.
SBH headed to L.A. for a photo session with Naturi Naughton. Naturi, formerly with the music group 3LW, was on the big screen in the film Notorious (in the role of Lil’ Kim) and in the musical Fame. “My favorite look was when I had my hair really straight,” says Naturi of her SBH photo shoot. “It was really fabulous, sleek and smooth.” Wondering what the vibe was like during Naturi’s SBH shoot. “We listened to Beyoncé’s ‘Halo,’ which got me excited because I love that song. It kept me up, moving and enjoying the fact that I was at a photo shoot for Sophisticate’s Black Hair.”
Back in Chicago…SBH turns the spotlight on gospel music duo Mary Mary—with the help of star hairstylist A.J. Johnson (pictured prepping Mary Mary’s Erica Campbell in the dressing room). Erica, a former hairstylist, offers her best tress advice: “Keep your hair clean and conditioned,” recommends the singer. “[As a hairstylist] I was all about healthy hair.”

Hi D@ll@S_Gurl: Mary Mary’s Erica Campbell told us the razored bob cut you’re loving is a weave. “It’s my ‘work’ hair,” she says. “I get my hair re-sewn and re-tightened about every month.” As for the cut itself, the back bares the nape then gradually gets longer toward the front which blends with long bangs. After blow-drying with a round brush, a flat iron “flicks” sections throughout for a fun, flirty effect!
